Landing Page Checklist Before Running Google Ads: 36 Checks (India)

Before you spend a single rupee on Google Ads, check your landing page. It’s the part of the campaign that decides whether the clicks you pay for turn into calls, enquiries or sales, and it’s where most budgets quietly leak.

This checklist covers the 36 things I check on a landing page before a campaign goes live. Go through it section by section and tick what’s already done. Anything left unticked is a fix to make before you turn the ads on.

Already running ads and not getting leads? Start with why your landing page is losing leads, then come back to this list.

1. Message Match: Does the Page Continue the Ad?

Most of the budget lost on Google Ads is lost here. Someone clicks an ad about root canal treatment in Indiranagar and lands on a generic homepage. They leave.

  • ☐The headline repeats the main promise or keyword of the ad
  • ☐The service, product or location in the ad is visible without scrolling
  • ☐Each ad group sends traffic to the most relevant page, not the homepage
  • ☐Any offer or detail mentioned in the ad (free consultation, delivery time, etc.) is on the page

2. Above the Fold: The First Five Seconds

Visitors decide in seconds whether they’re in the right place. On mobile, “above the fold” is roughly the first screen.

  • ☐A clear headline that says what you do and for whom
  • ☐One supporting line that explains the main benefit or outcome
  • ☐A single, obvious call to action (call, WhatsApp, book, enquire)
  • ☐No auto-playing sliders, pop-ups or clutter pushing the CTA down
  • ☐A relevant image of the real service, product, team or premises

3. Offer and Call to Action

The page has to tell people exactly what happens next and make it easy.

  • ☐One primary action per page; secondary actions are visually quieter
  • ☐Button text says what happens (“Book a free consultation”, not “Submit”)
  • ☐The CTA appears again after key sections on longer pages
  • ☐Tap-to-call and WhatsApp buttons work on mobile (test them yourself)
  • ☐Business hours are shown if you rely on calls

4. The Form

Every extra field costs enquiries. Ask only for what you need to follow up.

  • ☐Three to four fields for a first enquiry (name, phone, need)
  • ☐Mobile number field accepts Indian formats without errors
  • ☐Clear confirmation after submitting (a thank-you page, not just a small message)
  • ☐Form submissions actually reach someone; test with a real enquiry
  • ☐Someone is responsible for replying, ideally within an hour during working hours

5. Trust and Proof

Indian buyers are cautious with businesses they find through ads. Give them reasons to believe you.

  • ☐Your real business name, address and contact details are visible
  • ☐Qualifications, certifications, years in business or relevant credentials
  • ☐Genuine reviews or testimonials (with permission), or a link to your Google reviews
  • ☐Photos of your real team, premises or work, not only stock images
  • ☐No exaggerated claims you can’t back up (“No. 1”, “guaranteed results”)

6. Mobile and Speed

Most Google Ads clicks in India come from phones, often on patchy connections.

  • ☐The page loads quickly on mobile data (check with Google PageSpeed Insights)
  • ☐Text is readable without zooming; buttons are easy to tap
  • ☐Nothing breaks or overlaps on small screens
  • ☐Images are compressed; no heavy videos loading by default

7. Tracking

If you can’t measure enquiries, you can’t improve the campaign.

  • ☐Conversion tracking fires on real actions: form submissions, calls, WhatsApp clicks
  • ☐Each conversion is counted once (test it yourself)
  • ☐Call tracking or call extensions are set up if phone enquiries matter
  • ☐Google Analytics (or similar) is installed and receiving data

8. Google Ads Policy Basics

A page that breaks Google’s destination requirements can get ads disapproved.

  • ☐The page works, loads fully and has no broken links or error pages
  • ☐There is a privacy policy, especially if you collect personal details
  • ☐Claims on the page match the ad, with no misleading promises
  • ☐The page doesn’t trap visitors (no disabled back button or forced pop-ups)

How to Score Your Landing Page

Count your ticks out of 36.

  • 32–36: you’re ready to launch. Focus on testing headlines and offers once data comes in.
  • 24–31: fix the gaps in sections 1, 3 and 7 first. They have the biggest impact on cost per lead.
  • Below 24: don’t launch yet. More traffic will only make the leaks more expensive.

Landing Page Checklist: FAQs

Should I send Google Ads traffic to my homepage?

Usually not. A homepage tries to serve everyone. A dedicated page for each service or offer, matching the ad, almost always converts better.

Do I need a separate landing page for every ad group?

Not always, but you need one for each distinct service, product or audience. If two ad groups target the same service, they can share a page.

How long should a landing page be?

Long enough to answer the visitor’s main questions and objections, and no longer. Simple, urgent services (emergency repairs, clinic appointments) can be short. Higher-priced or considered purchases need more detail and proof.

What if my landing page is fine but leads are still poor?

Then look at keywords, targeting and tracking. See why Google Ads get clicks but no sales, or run the sales funnel audit checklist to check the whole journey.
