I created my first blog in 2007. back then it took me roughly a week to put everything in order. That blog never had its first post…Looking back I don’t want to repeat the same mistake. If I had that thing going on I would have had immense introspection… Found great ideas to build on… help others and not repeat the same mistakes.
But back then I was not sure what I was doing… It was difficult for me to even comprehend a niche, let alone add tid-bit of value. Wish I had someone to guide me or at least had a bit of maturity do some extra research in the right direction.
Fast forward today it takes me roughly half an hour to set up a blog/website on WordPress. But I see my clients repeating the same mistake again and again.
Recently I had someone wanting a blog set up on a very short notice…
I didn’t want to take it up as this gentleman was not sure how he will use it…(I even found his domain name a bit out of the way)
But he insisted that he shall very soon start writing his own content and needed my help to get things up quickly.
I didn’t want to say no as this was through a reference I owed a couple…
He even took my “Mindmapping Call” to build a content pipeline best suited for his niche…
All good!
Guess what? 3 months went by without a single post on any of the topics we discussed.
And then I get a ping on Skype and he says “This idea won’t work”
I don’t want to bore you with his rational of how bots/automation/spinning content and replicating (copying) products from the best coaches is the way to go. (He had coaching material from some who’s who and simply wants to replicate that)
And guess what? He wants my help in rewriting this course that he can use as his own.
Now, this is not the first time I have come across this type of proposal…
I find it strange when somebody says “It will not work” even before trying it… and then they fancy success by copying others.
I had to find a polite way to say no and then he on his own gave me a great opportunity.
I agreed to get his first 700-word write-up edited for his about page.
And guess what…? I haven’t heard from him in weeks.
I am certain he shall come back with some great idea again that shall be in replacement of what we agreed on last…
Today a lot of people are inspired by “Quick Success” and “Guru Blueprints” and keep moving from one shiny object to another and never actually build on something.
Staying original and finding your space is crucial for you to get a voice and resonate with your audience. But then you have to take the first step, be persistent and take it far enough before you conclude: “This won’t work”
